Home is where the ART is

Few days ago I had a chance to go to an event dedicated to young and striving industrial and interior designers, It was held in SM North EDSA’s Interior Zone (it’s just right behind The Block), I also got to see some furniture shops where I got giddy and wend window shopping for a bit. lol.

The event was called “Home is where art is” which focuses on designing your own home by picking different elements like different furnitures to give your home that certain aesthetic that you want to achieve.

Students from MAPUA all rested to hear the talk from Manila Fame Artists.

2 speakers who participated in Manila fame last year gave a short talk about design mostly about furnitures and some from fashion and accessories. Below are some furnitures of the artists exhibited at the Mall.

This one is inspired from the pirouette of a ballerina, that’s why it gave an illusion of a twirling motion from a ballerina’s tule.

What I love about this is the use of steel in designing a surprisingly comfortable chair and a very aesthetically good looking center table/coffee table.

Last may 9, 2013. Everyone was talking about this little gathering held in Bonifacio high street central, everyone was there — the most fashionable people in the media, stylists and other men’s wear enthusiasts. So what’s the fuss about?

Carrying a well-curated selection of items from Primer’s premiere brand lineup, General boasts of fashionable and utilitarian pieces that are perfect for today’s stylish, modern man

General’s unique Curatorship Program is meant to provide a better shopping atmosphere for the men wherein it taps distinguished individuals to design and conceptualize the look and feel of the store. For its first curator, journalist and popular “Sketching Backpacker”, Robert Alejandro gave them a hand in establishing the air of the store.

For his design inspiration for General, Robert shares, “I love the concept of the store – it is meant for older men like me. I am hoping the merchandise will also be for a person like me – I like classics instead of trendy stuff. I like “investment dressing” – this means even if it’s a bit pricey, the piece of clothing would have quality and a timeless style without being so stiff. I am hoping the store design would reflect that.”

Being the sketching backpacker that he is, Robert opts for long travels in and out of the country, he is the type who’d want to soak everything in and really immerse himself in his new environment. By choosing to stay in hostels, he shares that he gets to save more, which he then allots for being able to spend more time seeing the world.

It was definitely an intimate night filled with fashion, travel and everything that a gentleman needs in his life. What more can a classy man ask for?

General is a pioneer concept store that brings forth the quintessential men’s lifestyle store to the Philippines. It is located in upscale Metro Manila in Bonifacio Global City, placing itself in the high end-contemporary radar of men’s fashion. It is owned and operated by the Primer group of companies.
